Sandra Moen
Sandra Moen is one of our
favorite people and she is by all measures a sales
representative’s dream. She not only creates great
art, but she handles the business side with aplomb.
She consistently gives us delightful new styles and
you never have to worry about her getting her orders
out accurately and on time. It seems like she has
been with us forever, but, in fact, joined up in
April 1992.
She sees herself as living a “quiet and normal” life
in a small town just outside the Twin Cities, where
she has lived for 32 years. She has been married to
her high school sweetheart for 39 years.
The drama and excitement enters her life at her
studio door. This is where she makes her magic
happen. She loves high contrast combined with
simplicity and achieves it by using different papers,
colors, and textures. Her designs are always evolving
because she likes to experiment with traditional and
new techniques.
For the last 30 years, Sandra has worked as a full
time self-taught artist in fiber and mixed media. Her
handmade wool felt, as an example, is first sheared
from the sheep, washed, hand-dyed hand-carded and
then felted. She uses watercolor washes, metallic
paints, and metallic inks on 100% cotton rag board or
rice paper. Liquid and powdered dyes are used and
take on interesting textures under pressure from an
ordinary garden hose. Other media include leather,
suede wire, pearls, clay, metallic thread, and
various yarns.
Sandra Moen has won many awards for her artwork and
she has a loyal following for both her artcards and
her larger work. She participates in various art
fairs in the Midwest and this is how we originally
met.
